Should i watch supernatural
Shows that are too witty, too dark, or too challenging or all of the above generally fall by the wayside. Maybe TV really is only the land of crime procedurals and medical dramas, with no room for anything else. People have become accustomed to expecting only these genres from television, and as a result, are only interested in those genres. All I have is a pressing desire, and hope, that more will watch Supernatural, because they are missing one of the best and most fun TV shows on the air.
If I get even just one million more people watching this show because of this article, I will be pleased as punch. So start making me some punch. Supernatural punch. But, not just ghosts and vampires. It also tackles some awesome topics like ancient gods and creatures of lore from all corners of the world.
It offers you the entire realm of the supernatural; not just a specific range. Like I mentioned, this show goes beyond the halloween-y side. Yes, there are plenty of classic monsters for all the vampire, ghoul and ghost fans. But it mixes in some great ancient deities like gods and demi gods along with lore from other areas like Asia and Europe. Do you know what a Buruburu is? Neither did I until I watched this show. The series has both a long term plot and a new sub plot for each episode.
True, you could watch one here or there and enjoy the plot for that episode — in season 1. My point? If you find one or the other plot is dragging for an episode — it can and usually is redeemed by the other plot. The balance of supernatural lore and modernization. Sparkling vampires, zombies in search of love — these things have nothing to do with the original lore. Supernatural does it almost perfectly. Good Guy is Bad Guy is Good Guy… In most shows, supernatural or not, you know who the hero is and you know who the villain is.
I mean an actual shift in personality and motivations. The kicker? Eye Candy. The Winchester brothers were hard to accept at first. I mean I could see why they were cast — one looks like a GQ model and the other looks like that guy next door that you mysteriously need to borrow a cup of sugar from four times a week.
For me that actually made me resist the series at first. But none of them, and I think I truly mean none of them, have been able to help me deal with the myriad of thoughts and emotions that I had and still am experiencing due to this pandemic. Back in , given how I was probably going through some kind of angsty-goth phase, I was watching one episode of Supernatural every day.
It was like a ritual. But something snapped while watching Episode 5 of Season 4. It felt like the show had jumped the shark and I simply stopped watching. Cut to , and I was spending time with my new favourite show, which happened to be by Eric Kripke, called The Boys. I was recommending it to everyone, watching behind the scenes videos about, you know, the whole nine yards.
And with the advent of Ackles, it looked like the show was going to become a Supernatural reunion of sorts and I wanted to feel some of that hype. I am not going to lie, watching 15 Technically 14 and a half because the last few episodes of the 15th season will start to arrive from October 8 seasons which is made of around twenty minute long episodes in each season was tough. The other reason why is because I initially thought that the show was basically religious propaganda. More on that later.
So, I am not even going to do that. Instead, and as mentioned earlier, I am going to talk about why I loved it through the lens of this pandemic and the parallels I was able to draw between the show and real-life via three points.
