When is district 10 coming out

I want to go back to that world and tell the rest of the story with Wikus and Christopher. Neill Blomkamp has time and again said that he has wanted to make a sequel to District 9. As far as the cast is concerned, we can expect Sharlto Copley and Jason Cope to be back in their roles of Wikus van de Merwe and Christopher Johnson, respectively. The rest of the cast, however, is still not finalized.

In his confirmation tweet earlier this year, Blomkamp revealed District 10 was only in the initial writing phase, and a more recent July update claimed this process was still ongoing.

As such, District 10 still has an awfully long path to walk, with further drafts, casting, filming and post-production all still to come. For any other film, one might forecast a release, but given how long District 10 has taken just to reach this early stage, there really is no reliable timescale. Fans can only be encouraged that District 10 now appears to be Blomkamp's priority.

In his February announcement, Neill Blomkamp revealed that District 10 's script would once again be co-written by Terri Tatchell. This time, however, Sharlto Copley himself will be contributing to the writing. Indeed, District 9 's star has been as positive as Blomkamp about returning to his breakout role, so it's safe to assume Wikus will feature in District Taking into account the ending to District 9 , it's also reasonable to expect Jason Cope Christopher and Vanessa Hayward Tania, Wikus' wife back, though nothing is confirmed at present.

Blomkamp has, however, teased a mostly new plot for District 10 , rather than a conventional continuation, and this could limit the amount of familiar faces. There are two main questions left over from District 9 that District 10 won't be able to avoid answering. Firstly, what happened to Earth after Christopher escaped?

He co-starred in 's Elysium alongside Matt Damon and provided a performance for the visual effects team to reference as the eponymous robot in Chappie. In Blomkamp's tweet announcing the script for a new District 9 picture, he credited Copley as a co-writer.

When last we saw Copley's District 9 character, Wikus van de Merwe, he'd been transfigured into an alien through the power of science fiction weirdness. Bringing him back to the universe would mean either a return to fleshy human existence by means of equally sci-fi means, or another CGI-covered performance like in Chappie. Either way, he's a powerhouse actor who's been criminally underutilized in the years since the first film, and it would be great to see him back on the job, exoskeletal or otherwise.

Obviously, the brief announcement of a work-in-progress script doesn't give us a lot to go on, but we can pick up a few hints from what we've already heard.

Speaking to SyFy in , Blomkamp was asked about a possible sequel — more specifically, if it would revolve around Christopher and his insectine pals making a return trip to Earth in pursuit of E. What we can glean from the plot of the first movie is that District 10 will be an even bleaker affair than its predecessor. In the first film, District 10 is described as an even less comfortable, entirely segregated area for housing our alien guests , a place more like an internment camp than a ghetto.

Designated as the new, government-enforced home to the Prawns, it's said to house 2. The opportunities for fresh political metaphors are astonishingly easy pickings. Alternatively, maybe District 10 will be a nice story about everyone getting along and Wikus starting a metal flower shop in Pretoria with his new wife, Charlene.
